American Historical Society of Germans from Russia
which recently announced the beginning of a project to place approximately 200,000 obituaries on 5 x 8 cards that have been collected by volunteers for about 25 years on-line. Currently about 2,600 are live.

                                         American Memories Project At the Library of Congress Web Site - Are you looking for historical background to gain some insight into your ancestors' lives? This site is one of the best places on the web to explore to the past. The collections include photos and prints, documents, motion picture clips, maps and sound recordings that reflect various part of our history.

Ancestry.com - offering hundreds of searchable data bases. While many are available free of charge, without a paid subscription, access to all the data bases is limited.

Familysearch.org - the LDS searchable data base. Offers ancestral world trees, mailing lists, and links to other surname websites.

FreeBMD - Free Birth, Marriage, Death records. On February 3, 2000, FreeBMD announced that there are more than 1,000,000 entries in its data base of transcribed vital records of England and Wales that are more than 100 years old.

 Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies - a search engine, commonly known as O.R. Cornell University put this entire 130 volume set on-line last summer (1999). The current index has approximately 370,000 entries and indexes down to the volume level, but not the page. You will still need to browse through the index to the individual volumes to find a particular page number, but the search engine as it stands makes the whole set much easier to use.

RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative - the internet's oldest, and largest FREE genealogy site. RootsWeb has something to offer for every genealogist -- search engines, mailing lists, message boards (GenConnect), archives, and even web hosting.

RootsWeb World Connect Project - with more than 40 million names to search on WorldConnect, hundreds of thousands more added daily. Unlike other sites who turn around and sell the GEDCOM's submitted to them, RootsWeb's main objective is to allow free access to information for all genealogists. You can submit your GEDCOM if you so desire.

University of Idaho Special Collection - A collection of Idaho genealogical records.

Cyndi's List of Genealogy Web Sites on the Internet - a highly praised web site used by millions of researchers. With over 120,200 links (as of 1/16/02), new links are added on a weekly basis.

Genealogy Pages - A genealogy portal with many links to valuable websites and databases.

Idaho Ghost Towns on the Web - this site has many photos of ghost towns in Idaho.

Topozone.com - The TopoZone is the Web's center for topographic map users and outdoor recreation enthusiasts. We've worked with the USGS to create the Web's first interactive topo map of the entire United States. If you're looking for maps that don't leave big blank spaces between the highways, welcome!
